The city of Ventura offers several nice golf adventures. One of my favorites is actually a 9-hole public course, Ventura Regional. It has some challenging holes, including hole number 7 which is a sharp dogleg left par 4. It has a beautiful V shaped palm tree sitting on the left corner. Everyone wants to "Split the V," and end up closer to the hole. That V was the inspiration to this design.
